<The Third World War>
A scene from my story 'Dirge: Chronicles of Midghar'.

History: Super-powers controlled super-weapons. Enough warheads existed around the world to obliterate every living thing ten-times over. It was only a matter of time before a word was misspoken, or a finger slipped...

The assassination of one of the world leaders was enough to tip the scales to all-out war, and it wasn't long until every nation fired what they could.

This wasn't the nuclear holocaust that has been predicted so many years back, however. This modern warfare was more 'refined' than that. Instead of radiation, these warheads held nanobots - tiny machines that were programmed to swarm the population like an illness, attacking the genetics of the victim. One day was all it took for humanity to wipe itself out.

Or so everyone thought. With nations nothing more than piles of rubble, governments made of bones and technology all but gone, the people of the world had no way of knowing how many of themselves had survived. The nanobots had not killed everyone - some were apparently immune to their infection, while others had been... changed.

So this, the world born again from its own ashes, must struggle to face the new realities of life. Nanobots are as abundant as oxygen, technology as scarce as gold, and humans littered around the landscape like packs of wolves.

This is Earth 2.0.

Originally I planned to colour this project, though it didn't take long to realize what a monumental and unachievable goal that was, so the animation remains black and white in its final form. Particle smoke effects were added to the animation in After Effects, hence why they're not in this image.

If you're wondering why this picture has an odd aspect ratio, it's because the shot pans up~

This is the second version to be uploaded here, replacing the WIP version (with added clouds and depth blurring). If anyone prefers or still likes the WIP version, I can re-upload it to scraps.
